A Brief History
HLB Edirisinghe & Co.,
the “flag ship” Firm of Chartered Accountants,
was established on the 1st of August 1985 by the Founder Partner;
A.T.P. Edirisinghe with three employees.
Having worked for over 19 years in the Private Sector both
in Sri Lanka and Overseas, Mr. Edirisinghe went into professional
practice at the age of 40 years. At that time, his last position
was that of Director of the Parent Company of John Keells
Group, holding in addition many Directorates in the Subsidiary
Companies. He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Sri Lanka and also a Fellow Member of the Chartered
Institute of Management Accountants, England.
With the diverse exposure, the Firm separated its services
into three arms;
- HLB Edirisinghe & Co., for Audit, Tax & related
matters
- PE Management Consultants (Pvt.) Ltd., for Management
Consultancy work
- Businessmate (Pvt.) Ltd., for Company/Corporate Secretarial
Work
From the commencement all
work was done with the use of computers; a new concept not
followed by most practicing Firms in Sri Lanka in 1985. Today,
after almost fourteen years, the Firm consists of five Partners
and two Managers who are Chartered Accountants, supported
by a Staff of thirty-five. The services continue to be totally
computer based.
HLB Edirisinghe & Co., and its two Associate Companies
are now well known in Sri Lanka for its high level professional
services covering all financial and management activities
under “one roof”. Thus the combine posses professionalism,
commitment, dedication, recognition and integrity in service.
Two of the Partners, including the Founder Partner, are Fellow
Members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, counting
over 20 years of professional experience, both in Sri Lanka
and abroad.
The annual growth has been over 20% in terms of turnover and
volume.
Our Fees in all instances are time based and under no circumstances
do we charge on value/savings to clients. We also strictly
comply with the code of conduct of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Sri Lanka.

The International Network
In 1995, the Firm joined
HLB International which is a worldwide organisation of professional
accounting firms, each providing clients with a comprehensive
and personal service relating to auditing, taxation, accounting
and general and financial management advice.
HLB was formed in 1969 by three Firms; Hodgson Harris from
England, Mann Judd Landau from United States and Brands &
Wolff from Holland under the name Hodgson, Landua & Brands
and for simplicity this name was changed to HLB in 1990.
It now has member firms and correspondents in over 90 countries.
Annual billings by members are US$ 530 million, generated
by 1,000 partners and 7,000 staff in nearly 350 offices.
HLB members are well established national or local firms,
capable of handling international assignments in all the main
business centres and experienced in coordinating activities
between countries.
The member Firms have the capacity to provide services covering
Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, including international Taxation,
Fiscal/Exchange Controls, in all appropriate areas of Management
